Following on from
our earlier ‘ A Beginners Guide to Reading Palms‘ article, which proved to be very popular, this article focuses on one specific
area of palmistry to give a more detailed guide. What I will be explaining here are the so-called ‘mounts’ of
the hand and their meanings, along with the central ‘plain’ in the middle of the palm.
There are actually 8 mounts
on each hand, but due to constraints on space here I will be focussing on the 6 main ones, which are the fleshy pads at the
bottom of each finger, plus the extra one on the opposite side of the palm to the thumb.
The Mount of Venus: This
is the large pad of flesh that covers the base of the thumb. It indicates the ability to express emotion and affection, the
kind of relationships a person will have, and levels of libido (taken in the broader definition to include general life energy
as well as sexual energy). A very large and firm mount of Venus indicates an energetic, probably quite charismatic person
with a high sex drive. This kind of person must be wary of becoming obsessive over things. A flat and flabby mount of Venus
often shows a listless personality prone to depression and illness. They may have a low sex drive and a tendency to give up
on things too soon. A medium sized and springy feeling mount shows a person with good energy levels who is probably sociable
and who will have happy and fulfilling relationships.
Mount of Mercury: This
relates to communication and business success, and is located where the little finger meets the palm. If it is large and puffy
this probably indicates a person who may be very eloquent, but whose words are all designed for effect and are not from the
heart; they would make a good salesperson. If it is underdeveloped the person is introverted and may have trouble expressing
themselves.
Mount of Apollo: This
is located below the ring finger and denotes artistic ability and sociability. If it is over developed the person will probably
be showy and ostentatious – a born entertainer – and will be of generous spirit, whereas if it is under-developed
the person is likely to be quite staid and cynical, with little interest in aesthetics and beauty.
